okay here goes: well acutally this has happened to me multiple times, you'd think i'd learn not to blush and get embarrassed by now. but no. it gets me every stinkin time.
k, how old do i look?
#1: we went to our new ward for the first time on sunday. i was nervous. because with this ward, i acutally want to make friends and stuff. so, you know, we gotta be on good behavior. and i have to try to remember that all these ladies may not be my agggeee, but i'm an adult, with a child, so i have every right to join conversations, volenteer for things, read a scripture or two, answer questions, you get the point. SO, alls well, and its third hour. the young women are in opening exersizes with us. i've chatted with the ladies who were sitting around me, i'm doing great. UNTIL, this little behive comes and sits next to me. great, there are young women all around the room. it gets quiet, we're about to start, and she looks over at me and says, "oh are you new?" and i reply, "yes" and she looks so delighted and practically shouts "yes! a new behive!" what am i supposed to say here? i start to blush. all the ladies are lauging. and i'm like, "uh..no,i'm a mom" I'M A MOM? there's plenty of other things i could've said like, "no sorry honey, i'm too old for young womens." or "i've been out of young womens for years dear." but the first thing that pop's into my head, is , i'm a mom. then the poor girl is embarrassed to death, so i'm trying to tell her it's fine, i get it a lot blah blah blah. luckily the music started so we could both be put out of our misery.
#2: in our last ward i taught CTR6 for a year. a year. and 2 weeks ago practicing for our primary program, i complimented our pianist and she looks at me and looks away. then looks back and says, "oh sorry! i though you were one of the kids!" CTR 6! COME ON!
#3: i went to check out my sister from the highschool, and they carded me. THEY CARDED ME. what the heck? i didn't know what to do. in fact i was pretty mad. they didn't card me to make sure i was who i said i was, they carded me because, "we have to make sure your not a student here" oh, let me add that i had lynley in the stroller. who on earth would go to that much effort to try and ditch a class? no better yet to help one of their friends ditch a class. pathetic.
do i really look like im 10? i hate that! "oh courtney someday you'll be thankful you look young" don't even say it. i'm serious.
it's intimidating to try and be friends with people to look and act like their 10 yeras older then me. grrr.

You need some good comebacks. There's a gal in our ward, newly married at age 19. I got married at 19 so I understand the whole 'you look you should be in young womens's' thing. LAME.
Anyway, she came to our book club to get to know some of the ladies and one woman said to her, 'you look like your 16.' Her response? No, 15. HA!! It was funny. I know you want to look older, but don't let it get you down. Feel sad for a YW that feels embarrassed but ignore the audlts or think of clever things to respond. They are teasing/commenting/whatevering to make them feel better.
I don't think you look 10 or 12. I have a beehive. But, you are beautiful! They are jealous.
the end
